This painting was commissioned by the Historical Society of Dunkirk in 1976 and painted by William Burt. It depicts Dunkirk’s triumphant moment when the New York and Erie Railroad arrived at its terminus at Dunkirk at May 15, 1851, completing the longest railroad line in the nation to that date, 446 miles. It now hangs in City Hall. Then Horatio Brooks is superimposed at the left. He founded the Brooks Locomotive Works in 1869.
